i only know that as i grow further as a designer and as a student of design, my purpose changes.
i feel somehow that my first obligation is to change my immediate environment. and by my that, i refer to my "immediate environment" as san antonio and specifically downtown where i've been influenced and educated. downtown sa sees life differently than all of the other parts. a place where diversity is welcomed with open arms to culture and the arts and historic preservation and the beauty of architecture. a mind set that refuses to fit in the "big man's" pocket controlled by walmart and shopping strips that all look the same. is it not more important to support small and local businesses and the preservation of a historic city rather than the laziness beast that bestows too many citizens. we must change our environment, and not chinas or iraqs environment. do we not need growth for our children and our children's children. what are we teaching them that's important? we need to cherish and appreciate our local habitat. our environment includes the parks we play and the museums or lack there of and the historic churches that still grace us with their presence. what will they know? where will they grow.......china?
